Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book?
To book, please fill out our Customer Form. This will allow us to create an account for you to access the Customer Portal.
What do I need to bring with me?
You will need to bring enough dry pellet food for your pet during their stay. It's a good idea to bring some extra, just in case their stay needs to be extended unexpectedly.
Pet owners who bring their own cages for their pets, such as gerbils, hamsters, mice, etc., are kindly requested to provide a change of bedding if they would like us to clean out their pets' cages during their stay.
You can bring toys, wooden chews, tunnels, blankets, teddy bears, or anything else that will make your pet feel at ease. Make sure to label all items.
What do you provide?
We offer unlimited Nature's Own Devon Meadow Hay and Nature's Own Barley Straw for rabbits and guinea pigs to munch on, excluding gerbils, mice, and hamsters. Additionally, we have litter trays, water bottles, and bowls available upon request. In the evening before bedtime, a small serving of vegetables, fruits, or herbs will be provided.
When do you require payment?
An email will be sent before boarding with an invoice detailing the payment that needs to be made before you board with us. Full payment must be received upon arrival or before, either in cash or through a bank transfer.
Why do you not allow rabbits and guinea pig on the grass during their stay?
Pet diseases can be transmitted through urine and faeces, which can persist in the soil and grass for extended periods. While it is not possible to clean and disinfect grass, slabbed areas can be effectively sanitised.
Did you know that rabbits can also carry infection without showing any symptoms themselves, so even if you rabbit is fit and well, they may still be spreading the infection!
Why do you insist my rabbit being vaccinated?
To ensure the health and wellbeing of all rabbits boarding with Happy Bunnies Hotel all rabbits need to be vaccinated against Myxomatosis (Myxo) and the two strains of Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease RVHD1 and RVHD2. Rabbit owners must email us a copy of your vaccination card. We will not accept boarding for your rabbit without proof of vaccination.
When did you open?
We opened on 1st February 2017 with our smaller purpose built accommodation with six hutches inside. Due to the demand we built a larger purpose built accommodation with fifteen 6ft x 2ft hutches in 2018. This gave us more room to board guinea pigs, mice, hamsters and gerbils. The smaller accommodation is now used to house six 6ft x 2ft hutch for rabbits and guinea pigs.
Can I visit the accommodation before boarding?
You are welcome to come and see where your pet will be staying during their visit. Please remember to schedule an appointment and wear a mask. If you have been in contact with someone who has COVID, flu, or a severe cold, or if you have had any symptoms in the last 7 days, please reschedule your appointment. This step is being taken as a precaution to protect the health of our employees.
My pet needs to take medicine during their stay?
We can administer medication for your pet without any additional cost. Just update your online account with the medication details including the name, quantity, and the schedule for administering it.
What services to you provide?
We provide exclusive services for both boarders and non-boarders, but only by appointment. Our services cater specifically to guinea pigs and rabbits. We offer nail clipping and haircuts, as well as removing matted fur and cleaning dirty bums. Additionally, we provide a bath service for guinea pigs.
What disinfectant to you use?
All our hutches, runs, floors and slabbed areas undergo thorough cleaning with a combination of Anigene HLD4V High Level disinfectant, white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda before your pet boards with us.
Do you do provide a bonding service?
Unfortunately, we do not offer this particular service. However, you may want to consider visiting Derrick's Den Rabbit Boarding in Rushden, Northampton, where some of our customers have successfully bonded their pets. Alternatively, you can also explore the rabbit welfare website for information on how to bond your rabbits.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are fully insured with Petplan Sanctuary.
